| The sandalwood chess set displayed at the IHE
is one of the worlds largest chess sets. While all the figures are carved in
sandalwood, the traditional board is replaced by a jari work, intricately
detailed with semi precious stones. The entire chess set is designed to represent a war
scene between the Rajputs and the Mughals. The difference between the two is depicted
through minute detailing like flags, beards - through which one can differentiate a
Muslim and Rajput soldier. Muslims, for instance used horses while Rajputs came to the war
on camels. |
